Sunflower close up

Sunflower season

I like Sunflowers. They’re quite ridiculous really, as a plant. They need a fair bit of attention, a nice pole to grow up, or they’ll act all pathetic and fall over, lots of water, space and sun of course. But they are most satisfying to cultivate. This summers batch grew particularly well, despite a poor start and taking f o r e v e r to come into bloom. The extremeness of height and abundance of leaves was apparently a topic of conversation amongst our neighbours who all thought we were growing something a whole lot less legal than sunflowers…

So sunny and bright. Just what we need to see in this dull dismal English winter!
