Return to Tassie

Oh my jeeze, only 2 months left in Australia land before the grand return to Blighty – so we’re dashing about trying to cram as many good things into our weekends as possible. We spent an awesome (if soggy) week in Tasmania last year and really wanted to re-visit Hobart…

Spent the fist two nights at Corinda’s Cottages in the Glebe area of town. They have 3 amazingly restored and decorated out-buildings to stay in. The attention to detail is astonishing, the owners are collectors of all things vintage, arty and obscure and are very generous in scattering such interesting items about the properties. The combination of these pretty things plus my new camera could lead to only one course of action… snap, snap, snap…

Oh yes, and we had some nice strolls about Hobart, Richmond and New Norfolk (when I wasn’t taking pictures of the cottages) – proof follows…

Tasty eating was had at Daci Daci (om-nom-nom bakery – counters brimming with tastiness) and Smolt (Spanishy Italiany kinda place – yummy lamb ribs with dukkah and chutney)

Onwards to Bruny Island, an hours drive, plus a ferry, south of Hobart. Because Tasmania isn’t remote enough, you know, a bit urban and overcrowded (not), we decided to spend two nights on Bruny where the wallaby population clearly outnumber the human residents.

Stayed at Parnella near Adventure Bay in the south. Fab little place, cosy & comfy with a resident white wallaby and sheep.

We had some great weather and managed some spectacular walks around the Fluted Cape and Cape Queen Elizabeth. Gratuitous scenery pictures to follow. Oh and there was smoked fish, cheese and fudge too. Scoff. Had a lovely home-cooked dinner at the unique Hothouse Cafe 10 minutes drive from Adventure Bay. Be sure to save room for afters – there’s a delicious array of home baked goodies to choose from. I had to be rolled home afterwards. Dinner bookings are essential, they only open if they know you’re coming!
